Second Annual Democracy Fair: Learn. Vote. Lead. Oct. 17

The League of Women Voters of Anchorage, with three partners, is presenting the second annual Democracy Fair: Learn. Vote. Lead. 11 am to 3 pm, Saturday, October 17, at Z.J. Loussac Library, 3600 Denali St. in Anchorage.

The event is open to the public, free of charge, and designed to engage Alaskans in the coming Nov. 3 General Election, as well as election law and democracy more generally.

In addition to the League of Women Voters of Anchorage, co-sponsors are Veterans for All Voters, Zonta Club of Anchorage, and Get Out the Native Vote.

This nonpartisan event features exhibitors and speakers exploring issues related to elections and our democracy. It will also include kid-friendly activities – the always popular Youth Vote booth – and a game to test one’s knowledge of Alaska’s political history. The Democracy Fair is not a candidate forum.

Presentations will focus on state and federal election law, the state of the Alaska Native vote, Ballot Measure 2 and Ranked Choice Voting, and threats to Alaska judiciary’s independence.

Speakers include Juli Lucky from Alaskans for Better Elections, Michelle (Macuar) Sparck from Get Out the Native Vote, Emily Leak-Michie and Jackie (Arnaciar) Boyer from Alaska Voter Hub, David Landry from Justice Not Politics, and Bryan Schroder, member of Veterans for all Voters, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Alaska and retired Coast Guard captain.

The Food Bank of Alaska will be collecting donations of food outside the library throughout the event.
